Zoological Writing Comp

In my writing group we entered a writing competition. Our writing competition had to be about animals and the animals still had to have the same traits. Recently I have gotten a new puppy! I decided it would be a perfect topic for my story. Here is my story.

THE STORY OF MY NEW PUPPY

As the Eastern light rose above the shore line and the daylight was captured within the creases of the land, subtle chirping woke everyone in the neighbourhood. This morning a  young puppy was in for a surprise.

As I wandered through the sand dunes of Wainui beach, I found myself being drawn towards a long driveway. The harsh Autumn breeze rushed through my disheveled fur causing shivers to run down my spine. While I made my way swiftly up the winding driveway I found my hind legs slowly getting tired. After a steep climb, I was at the entrance to a house. Anxiously, I let out a desperate growl to indicate that I was there.

I heard a small squeal, “puppy!” A young girl came rushing outside, clearly expressing her excitement. Afraid, I rushed around the corner. Flashbacks were running through my head, my previous experience with people wasn’t so good. “Where are you?” The young girl was eager to find me. Heavily breathing I quickly looked around for an exit, but it was too late. She had me in her firm grip and was taking me inside.

Anxiousness was quickly replaced with a sense of comfort and relief as the warmth of the house permeated through me, thawing the coldness from by body. Moving past the entryway into the interior of the house, the young girl presented me to her unsuspecting parents. “Look what I found.” At first the faces of her parents seemed to express confusion, but this was quickly followed by welcoming smiles. Her mother suggested she introduce me to the other two puppies who were curiously peering through the window.

The young girl opened the door leading down into the hallway and the two puppies rushed towards me. As my paws met the ground, our heads clashed together and our noses touched. Their breath smelt unfamiliar, a combination of foreign spices mixed with poor dental hygiene. While I was intrigued by the new encounter, I rushed past them both, to find the source of the spicey scent. Guided by my nose, I scoured the area and found a shiny steel bowl, isolated in the corner of the kitchen. Exhilarated at finding the source of the scent, I impatiently lept toward the bowl, burying my nose inside. My tongue overtook my nose as I devoured a lonely remnant.

My mouth salivated, as the flavour of the dish exploded within my mouth. Every taste bud tingled. As the food absorbed into my system, a fiery sensation rose from within the walls of my snout.

Overcome by pain I questioned my actions. Whimpering, I looked upward trying to identify a remedy to this foreign sensation. Hopelessness ambued my mind until I felt the young girls grip around my body. She picked me up and cradled me in her arms despite the discomfort, I now knew that I was safe.

Story Bird Poem

Today in class we got given a picture and 100 words to make a poem. I found it challenging because there were lots of words that weren't there that I wanted to use. I had to choose the words very carefully and a helpful word to keep in mind was succint. Overall I really liked this activity.

Kawa Of Care

Charlie, Mahia and I created a poster talking about The Kawa Of Care. The Kawa Of Care main idea is a poster talking about how to be cyber smart and cyber safe. It also tells you how to care for your chromebook or any type of laptop carefully. You won't get into any trouble online if you follow the steps on the kawa of care poster. It is important that you are responsible on the internet when your younger because when your older and looking for a job people could search you, and find something silly you did when you were younger. That is called a BAD digital footprint. A GOOD digital footprint example would be if somebody searched
your name and saw a really good quality report on why we should keep the earth healthy. That is just one example of a GOOD digital footprint there are many other examples.
If You want to stay really safe you can follow these great steps on how to make a good comment.
1. Start with a greeting "Hi."
2. Compliment the author on their work "I Like.."
3. Does the blog post remind me of something similar? Make a connection.
4. Add more information.
5. Ask a question.
6. Re-read for sense - does my comment make sense?
7.Check for spelling and punctuation
8. Check with the teacher
9. PUBLISH
